A child needs more than a pencil and paper to go to School
Access to quality healthcare and education are fundamental keys to success in life. In New Jersey, a child can not be admitted into school without the required physical exam and vaccinations. Yet, a significant sector of New Jersey families have no healthcare insurance.
Reina, tried to enroll her daughter at the local public elementary school, but was turned away because her daughter did not have the required medical check-up and vaccinations. Although Reina held a twelve-hour day job at the local department store, her company did not offer health insurance for herself or her family. Without health insurance, her dream of educating her daughter was challenged even before she could help her with her first homework assignment. Thankfully, Reina was referred to Horizon Health Center. Horizon updated her daughter's vaccinations, gave her a complete physical and provided needed medical care and social services for Reina and the rest of her family.
Horizon Health Care opened its doors in 1963 and supports the rights of women, impoverished adults and children. Horizon offers comprehensive primary healthcare services and functions as a referral agency for a range of social, educational and specialty medical services.
Please help Horizon to continue being the resource that facilitates success stories of the people we serve in New Jersey:
- $50 sends one child through our Families and Children's Educational Services program to assist children's medical and social needs prior to entering school
- $100 helps one student visit the satellite School-Based Health Services in Jersey City Public Schools
- $150 underwrites one child enrollment in the Peer Education Program (C.O.P.E.)
- $200 helps support the Drop In Center for HIV Prevention for one day per week
- $250 gives medical care to an individual child without health insurance coverage, including a physical exam, immunizations, blood tests, blood pressure, diabetes, and asthma screenings along with a sports and school physical exam
-$500 funds one week of educational and arts programming for our Youth Center.
